Start of the research project GeoWaermeWende

In May 2022, the GeoWaermeWende research project has started. The focus of the project are geothermally fed low temperature district heating networks (LTDHC), which represent a promising alternative for the sustainable heat supply of buildings and districts. Within the project, planning tools will be developed that will provide initial estimates of the feasibility, economic viability, and ecological impact of such thermal networks to facilitate the planning and implementation of LTDHC projects. For the already existing LTDHC in Schifferstadt, a monitoring concept will be developed and implemented to validate the simulation results and to identify possible optimization potentials. In addition, the monitoring data will be presented visually to pave the way as a technology demonstrator for future LTDHC projects. The functionalities developed will finally be made accessible to the general public in a kind of "pilgrimage site" of the energy transition in the test field on site in Schifferstadt.

Scientific project partners are the Institute of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Building E3D (coordination), the Chair of Geotechnical Engineering and Institute of Geomechanics and Underground Technology (GUT) as well as the Geodetic Institute and Chair for Computing in Civil Engineering & Geo Information Systems (gia). The consortium is completed by Stadtwerke Schifferstadt (SWS), Transferstelle Bingen (TSB) and Internet Marketing Services GmbH (IMS).
